History

A taco decades in the making.

1990

At the age of 5, Otto has his first taco. Game Over.

2003

Otto moves to NYC. He can't find a decent taco. What gives?

2012

Otto quits his job to follow his dream of opening a taqueria in Manhattan.

2013

Otto and the team open the first Otto's Tacos in New York City's East Village neighborhood.

2015

The West Village gets a bite! Our second Otto's Tacos opens.

2016

Three's a crowd! The third Otto's Tacos opens in Hell's Kitchen.

2018

Holy fourth store, Batman! Otto's opens on the Upper East Side.

2019

What started as a small restaurant has turned into four corporate stores in four beautiful neighborhoods. We've built a presence in each community and pride ourselves on not only our food, but our people, streamlined operations, and company culture. Tacos are loved by all, and we're excited to bring our tacos to communities all over the world.

  • When did Otto's Tacos start franchising?

    Otto's Tacos became registered for franchising in 2019. Otto's Tacos franchises are available in the continental United States, Canada, and other international territories (by request).

  • Who is your dream Franchisee?

    Our dream franchisee has a passion for food and hospitality, possess an entrepreneurial spirit, and thrives on creative thinking. Franchisees should be well capitalized, have a strong pulse of their markets, and be experienced multi-unit operators.

  • How much will it cost to build our first location?

    The estimated investment of a single Otto's Tacos unit is $565,150 - $881,700, including the $30,000 franchisee fee for the first unit and $25,000 for each subsequent unit. Figures are based on the Otto's Tacos 2019 Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). International investments differ from these figures depending on the country and territory size.

  • What is covered by the franchise fee?

    Payment of the franchise fee provides a franchisee with access to the ins and outs of the Otto's Tacos brand and operation. This includes intellectual property (use of the brand, logos, signage, etc.), restaurant design guidelines, recipes, operations manual, and our proprietary learning management system. The fee also covers your initial training at our HQ in Manhattan and ongoing support from our corporate team and your dedicated Franchise Account Coordinator.

  • What sets Otto's Tacos apart from the competition?

    It's very simple - delicious food and great people keep customers coming back for more. Our education and training programs keep things fun and result in high employee retention and growth within the company. Our operating model expands revenue channels beyond in-store dining with pickup, delivery, and catering.

  • Can I enter into a multi-unit agreement or purchase a territory?

    Yes! Our restaurants are scalable and are designed for operators to open multiple units in a territory.

  • What is the approximate timing of becoming a franchisee and opening my first location?

    Timing is dependent on your real estate site selection, build-out, and how long it takes to complete training. Other factors include hiring and sourcing your supply chain. We estimate for it to take six - twelve months from the time you sign a franchise agreement to the opening of your location.

  • Tell me more about franchisee training and support?

    Welcome to New York City! We'll take you on a tour of all Otto's Tacos locations, provide you with a history of our brand and culture, discuss your role as a franchisee, and of course...taste the entire menu! We'll also review hiring procedures, operations, menu preparation, financial management, marketing, and more. You will be assigned a dedicated Franchise Account Coordinator who will be your direct line into the team at HQ and provide ongoing resources and support.

  • Who determines the location of my franchise?

    Otto's Tacos will provide support and real estate knowledge when it comes to selecting new sites. However, we rely on you as the expert of your market to find an initial site which will be approved by Otto's HQ. Ultimately, it's the franchisee's responsibility to secure the site of their restaurant.

  • Who will build my restaurant?

    Otto's HQ will provide franchisees with detailed design plans and guidelines that must be adhered to. However, it is the franchisee's responsibility for the full buildout of their restaurant, including hiring architects and contractors to execute the build-out of your restaurant.

  • Tell me more about ingredients and supply chain.

    Otto's HQ will assist franchisees with setting up their local supply chain and national accounts for proprietary Otto's Tacos ingredients (such as tortillas and spice blends), and branded paper goods. Building relationships with local suppliers is important to Otto's HQ as it allows franchisees to support their communities and save on costs, all while maintaining the quality and standards set by Otto's HQ.
